Contractors control list of tax dodgers

Tax intermediary Rift crunched the numbers on tax defaulters noted by federal government and discovered that of the 601 cases, 236 remained in the trades.

The hospitality and food market was the only other sector to come close, with 138 charges provided, representing 23% of the overall. The retail sector ranked 3rd, representing simply 5% of overall cases.

Rift handling director Bradley Post stated: “Having worked mainly within the structure and building trades for nearly 25 years, we understand that the huge bulk are truthful, hard-working individuals who make every effort to guarantee their tax affairs are all in order. The sector still accounts for the biggest percentage and, for that reason, the biggest overall of charges released for tax defaulting.”
