The alley-like streets and carefully spaced structures of the Block 6 area in Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp were loaded with individuals the afternoon of Oct. 31. Some stood in a long line at the regional pastry shop. Others were packed more securely than typical into small houses.
Numerous had actually disregarded or were not able to follow duplicated calls from the Israeli military to leave further south to prevent its approaching soldiers and aerial barrage, thinking they were reasonably safe and secure deep inside the vast, largely inhabited camp.
