Tata, the Indian moms and dad business of Jaguar Land Rover (JRL), revealed in July 2023 that it is preparing to construct a 40GW battery cell gigafactory on the 616-acre Gravity Smart Campus in Puriton, near Bridgwater, Somerset.

Stacking works begin in the spring for what will be the biggest battery production center in the UK.

Agratas, the newly-established battery department, of Tata, will inhabit approximately half of the Gravity Smart Campus website, which is being developed on the website of an old Royal Ordnance Factory that was decommissioned in 2008

Kelston Sparkes’ agreement is for a three-year duration where it will function as primary specialist for the early allowing works plan, including demolition, civils, earthworks and stack mat setup.

Building will be finished in stages, with battery production anticipated to start in 2026.
