MIAMI– Maycee Barber is still excited to run things back with UFC flyweight champ Alexa Grasso.
Barber (13-2 MMA, 8-2 UFC) satisfies Katlyn Cerminara (18-5 MMA, 11-5 UFC) Saturday at UFC 299 (pay-per-view, ESPNews, ESPN+) from Kaseya Center in Miami.
Presently riding a five-fight winning streak, consisting of a TKO of Amanda Ribas in June, Barber hopes a surface of Cerminara makes her a title shot versus Grasso, who’s the most current lady to beat her.
“Obviously, Alexa still has the belt, so it would be a title remover and getting a title shot,” Barber informed MMA Junkie and other press reporters at a pre-fight press conference Wednesday.
“When I complete Katlyn the gatekeeper, for me, that actually sets me up. It’s like, ‘All right, fine– she dominantly completed Katlyn, now it’s time to provide her a shot.’ And I’m still coming for my rematch.”
Grasso is connected to a rubber match versus Valentina Shevchenko. If the UFC does choose to go that instructions, Barber does not mind being the reserve for their title battle,
“Even if they do have their trilogy, if they’re set up to combat, I ‘d like to be the backup fighter. That would be terrific, or whatever we can make work,” Barber stated. “There’s injuries, there’s things that turn up, so I’ll be all set.”
Barber is not impressed with Cerminara’s resume. All 11 of previous title opposition Cerminara’s octagon wins have actually visited choice, and Barber intend on bringing the battle to her.
“More of what I take a look at is they’re choice wins,” Barber stated. “They’re not surfaces, they’re not dominant, they’re simply choice wins. She’s doing enough to win a choice.
“All the ladies that she’s battled that have actually chosen a surface, particularly (Jessica) Andrade, she got ended up. That’s what we prepare to do. We’re going to head out there and complete her. I’m not heading out there to point battle with her. I’m heading out there to complete her.”
