Panasas will enable consumers to utilize multi-actuator HDDs from January when it releases the ability in the brand-new variation of its PanFS file system software application.

Multi-actuator HDDs support in PanFS variation 10 will make the business the very first business storage supplier to release them in its items, according to Panasas CEO Ken Claffey.

Multi-actuator HDDs have hitherto, according to Claffey, just been provided to hyperscalers for their bespoke hardware architectures.

HDDs with several actuators, where more than one read head arm runs separately, were created for the hyperscalers and do not have the double ports produced double redundant high schedule (HA) seen in business HDDs. Hyperscaler hardware architecture– based upon huge quantities of network server-storage nodes– does not utilize HA since it depends on erasure coding.

Seagate Mach.2 HDDs, the multi-actuator ability in the drives Panases utilizes, suggests double the efficiency,
